Service Above Self

22 December 2010
There are those in our community who, although non-Rotarians, practice Service Above Self by their valuable support for Rotary Clubs in their area and beyond.

Rotary presented a Certificate of Recognition to BUSAREE SODCHUEN-SALER for her untiring efforts in preparing robust cartons for the safe shipment of medical and surgical supplies to third world countries through our Donations in Kind program.
Presenting a Certificate of Recognition to Busaree Sodchuen-Saler of Luke's Supa IGA Noosa in the presence of Grocery Manager, Steve Dicker.

Busaree works in the grocery department of Luke's Supa IGA Noosa and despite a busy work schedule, with the support of her manager Steve Dicker, has been saving much-needed strong cartons for us for the past year. This has enabled us to securely pack a wide range of medical and surgical goods for shipment to Timor Leste, Papua New Guinea, the Solomons and other Pacific destinations, with a possible extension to Vanuatu in the near future.

Busaree Sodchuen-Saler's support is a fine example of the benefits that can accrue from Rotarians working hand-in-hand with caring people in the community to provide urgently-needed humanitarian goods to indigent people in our neighbouring countries.
UPDATE 2013:
Busaree and Supa IGA Noosa have been providing us with strong uniform size cardboard boxes for the past three years that not only protect the donated goods during shipping but are easy for one person to lift and fit well in a shipping container. A regular supply of these boxes has enabled us to continue to securely package and transport donated goods to those who need them most.
In late 2012 Busaree identified an orphanage caring for 400 children in her homeland, Thailand and asked our club for assistance. A donation, personally delivered to the orphanage by Busaree during a home visit, provided 250 kilos of rice, assistance with public utility costs and some essential items for the children.
Busaree epitomises those who contribute, not only to their own community, but also to those in other countries where there is a need.
